Back to School Supply Drive 500 for a Gift for Teaching Remember how excited you were for the first day of school? You spent days picking out the coolest backpak, perfect pencils, most unique erasers and the hottest lunchbox! But the reality for over 77% of the students who receive lunch benefits is very different. Their families are unable to purchase the basic supplies needed to participate in school. Instead of feeling excited, they are nervous and hope that no on notices that the don’t have the same supplies as everyone else.   A Gift for Teaching’s goal is to provide school supplies for free for students in need so they can participate fully in the same education opportunities as the other students. Our team is registered as Rotary Club of Kissimmee Bay and will be collecting items from August 1st thru September 1st. We earn points/laps for our donations which will be posted on their website to challenge others. Please bring items to our weekly meeting. Needed items to start the race include: Box of 24 crayons                   Bottle of school glue                Pack of pencils           Backpack Pack of loose leaf paper          Pocket folders                          Cap erasers Financial donations can be made online under the team’s name. If we make online donations of $100 by the start of the race on August 1st, we will earn 500 laps. Rotaty Leadership Institute (RLI) The purpose of RLI is to give you the necessary tools and skills to be a better Rotatian. As in every endeavor, the more you know about anything, the more interesting it becomes. Graduates of RLI are more likely to remain in and be a bigger part of Rotary than any other demographic. RLI is a great place for newly inducted Rotarians to quicly lean about the “Object of Rotary”. Club Officers can build on their Rotary knowledge to enhance their club eperience. Club Presidents can expand on the skills gained at their President Elect Training Seminar. Long time Rotariams can re- kindle the old Rotary flame, and at the smae time share their experiences with other participants. The cost is just $95 per attendee and the club will reimburse you once you attend the session. To complete the course, there are three parts which are taken in order followed by a Graduate session on the Rotary Foundation. Log into www.rlitraining.org to register for the training. Casino Night The Rotary Club of Kissimmee Bay’s Annual Casino Night and Quction will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Elks Lodge on Kin’s Highway, Kissimmee.   This is our main fundraiser each year. The Proceeds from this night of fun, food and gaming produces the monies we need to fund our service projects for the community. It allows us to provide books for elementary school libraries, individual dictionaries for 3rd Graders in other local schools, build wheelchair ramps for homebound seniors in partnership with the Osceola Council on Aging, and scholarships for local college students. Many local businesses beome sponsors. We truly appreciate their generosity each year.
